Top 10 Blog Posts from 2021

It’s time for the annual top 10 lists from The Wrinkled Runner Blog, Podcast and YouTube channel.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting a different list, and linking to everything.

Top 10 Blog

1- Garmin Coach Review– A lot of people use Garmin, and a lot of runners must want information on the Coaching feature! This post is the most popular from 2021. If you have a Garmin and haven’t used Garmin Coach yet, it is free. This post is both a tutorial on how to use it and my review.

2- What is The Weather Channel Run Score– This is also a tutorial of sorts on using the Run Score from the app the Weather Channel puts out to decide the best time of day or week to get your run in.

3- While the number 1 post was a tutorial/review, the article “Using the Garmin Coach Feature for Training” was my thoughts on it DURING training for a fake half marathon.

4- Again with the Garmin, lol! Number 4 was “Using the Pace Pro Strategy- and Creating a Course”. You can tell your Garmin how you want to run a race or training run, using positive or negative splits (or all miles/km the same). You can also create your own course or choose one that has been created by others. One thing I’ve learned as I’ve used this more, when you use the feature for Garmin to create a course for you the mileage can be wonky. I wanted to create an 8 mile course the other day and the most it would do for me was 5 miles, so just keep that in mind.

5-“Run Fast. Cook Fast. Eat Slow” by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky. This is a review of the book.

6- Rest and Recovery in the Masters Runner– If you are over 40, you are considered a Master! Isn’t that cool? Those of us who are older may need more time to recover in order to keep our running bodies in healthy working order and stave off injuries.

7- Do You Burn More Carbs (Glycogen) in the Heat or More Fat– This article was born from The Weather Channel Run Score and the science behind their determination of when is a good time to run. I did a little research into whether we burn more carbs or fat depending on the temperature.

8-Runners Stride– Stride is something I have been learning more about, and I’m sharing what I’ve learned so far.

9- Knee Pain in the Older Runner– While knee pain can occur in any runner, older runners may find that the act of aging has some impact on our knees.

10- Strength Training Update– Like a lot of runners, I can be wishy washy when it comes to strength training. I will go great guns and do it for 3 months straight, and then slack off for 4 months. I did a Strength Training article a few years ago, and this is an update on what I’m doing now.
