Buffalo Marathon Training Week 10: On Apple Watches and the Outer Harbor
So this was another rest week, in preparation for 21 miles next week.
The weather is starting to be a bit better, so I was more anxious to get out there and run.
On the day of my typical long run, I have been running slow even if the mileage is not long.
I want to train myself to be able to pace without looking at my watch every minute. I pretty much suck at it… so still having to learn.
Apple Watch 3
I bought myself a new Apple watch a few weeks ago, to replace my old one.
I had the original, which I really liked but the battery was getting “old” and the watch was starting to quit on me after the long runs.
I also wanted to get one with GPS, since the original didn’t have it.
I still take my phone with me (I did not get the one with cell capability) in case I need to make a call.
The GPS in the watch itself is great for when I am not in the US and want to keep track of my mileage.
As an Apple girl, I like how everything syncs up with each other.
It’s nice not to have to think about having my phone in my vicinity at home and still get calls and texts.
With 5 kids, I always like to know I am within reach.
Even though 4 are married and one is in college, sometimes they need their mom (or I tell myself that anyway)!
It is nerve-wracking to rely on technology to transfer everything from one to another, but it worked seamlessly…always a plus.
Running Buffalo: City and Outer Harbor
Dave’s schedule was such that we were able to do our weekend runs together which was nice. We held a pretty steady race pace on a 5-mile run, which is pretty good while running through Buffalo.
We left at rush hour and miraculously hit the lights just right that we didn’t have a lot of slow down.
Now that the weather is better it is so nice seeing people out and about on the weekend.
There were a lot of people on a beautiful Sunday as we ran out to the Outer Harbor and the Union Ship Canal.
The Outer Harbor is just outside of downtown proper, but it feels like you are far away from the hustle and bustle.
I’ve heard rumors there are eagles in an area near Wilkeson Pointe and I aim to see if that is true this summer.
Our final run this week was a quick 4 miles, but what a wonderful 4 miles it was.
The weather was my perfect running temp…51F. We did a tempo because we were feeling so good and stretching the legs a bit was nice.
Weeks like this one make me so glad to be a runner, and happy to be living in Buffalo.
A few weeks ago I would not have said that, lol.
As I get older I am inching ever closer to wanting to move south for the winter, but Spring and Summer and into Fall is the best!
