The Racing Platform: Ahotu

When I was doing the series on the Garmin Connect website, I came across the section regarding racing and discovered the Ahotu website.

This site is dedicated to the global endurance community and you can find races for running, cycling walking and more. It’s a great place to go if you are interested in racing in your home town or somewhere else.

The Home Page gives you TONS of options for different sports and what you may want to do. Since this website is running specific, I’ll base this article on that.

Choose Your Race

The first thing you need to choose from is “regular” running or trail running…they even have a Dog run option, lol.

If you were to choose “Running”, you can see there are 34, 875 events to choose from! Let’s whittle that down a bit.

So I am going to visit my daughter in Lexington, SC the first week of July. I’m not currently training for any race so let’s say I am comfortable running a 10K and want to see what’s available near her.

I can choose 10K, which shows me 8,042 event’s.

This is a global site so I will pick my country as USA…4,083 events.

Let’s go to the “filter” option where we can see more things to check off.

I want to run in 2024, in July.

We can search by city, and as you input the letters all the Lexingtons will show up. There are no races there in July…too bad.

Racing Around the World

One of the things I love to do on vacation is run, and I will be highlighting a running site that you can run with a local around the world in a few weeks.

But if you love to run and love to race, it may be worth it to check this out and see if there are any races around when you are somewhere else. This site has an “Ahotu Checkout” option that show you events that are available for you to register right on the site, which if you are going to another country where you don’t speak the language could be a life saver!

Garmin Users

You can search for races from the Garmin Connect website, that is a personalized site just for you. I find that a lot of Garmin users don’t know that it exists, beyond the app. You can check out my series on it and see all the different things that it can tell you about your running.

When you search for a race in the Connect website, it lists the races and when selected shows that the information is from Ahotu.

You can also search right from your phone on the app as well. Go to the “More” tab on the app, and under “Training and Planning” you will find “Races and Events”.

Why the Name “Ahotu”

Founded in 2010 by Jean-Loup Fenaux, an ultra-runner who wanted a platform to find races, Ahotu Marathons was born.

Taken from the website, Ahotu means: “The name Ahotu originates from Polynesia, a subregion within Oceania comprising a tapestry of over 1,000 islands. Through the lens of poetic liberty, it might embody the tireless exhale that brings in the bountiful harvest.’ For us, Ahotu encompasses the reward of human movement both mentally and physically.”
